Anaheim Resort Specific Plan

Project details

In 1994, the Anaheim City Council established zoning and development standards for the Anaheim Resort Specific Plan (ARSP), aimed at recreational and tourist/convention activities. This document outlines the landscape concepts for public streets within The Anaheim Resort, detailing landscape treatments that foster a cohesive resort identity.

Working with many consultants a cohesive document was produced establishing some of the following objectives:

  • It provided an overview of the various landscape treatments that help to create a cohesive resort identity.

  • The scale of the landscape plantings reflected the scale of the place they are intended to enhance.

  • The streets and their edges provide the primary space in which the landscape can be placed to transform the identity.

  • Landscape and man-made elements like light fixtures are arranged in regular patterns to establish order and a recognizable geometry.

  • To create an illusion of greater depth in narrow spaces throughout the area and to add further variety, the landscape is planted in layers.

  • The public realm landscape planting must create unity while allowing diversity to create distinct differences between places.

I participated in this project by collecting imagery, creating exhibits, and assisting the lead consultant with developing the landscape standards.
